Due to this wide range of wall tiles now available, we have given a brief description and some usage guides below:
Until recently these tiles were the main type of tile
available and can are used both on the walls and the floor. The
glaze used on the top surface makes these tiles ideal for use in
bathrooms as it prevent moisture penetration when the right
grouts and adhesives are used.
These
tiles have become increasingly popular in recent years and are a
series of very small sized tiles mounted on a plastic mesh
backing. This mesh backing is typically 30cm square and assists
with the installation while making the tile flexible. Mosaic
tiles are available in a wide variety of materials including
ceramic, natural stone and glass. Due to the flexibility of these
tiles they are particularly suited for tiling round shaped or
curved areas in the bathroom.
These
tiles have also gained in popularity over the recent years and
are available in various forms such as travertine, marble,
granite, limestone, tumbled marble. The main advantage of these
tiles apart from their beauty is that they are very hard wearing
although they will require sealing before use.
These tiles are harder wearing than ceramic and virtually
impervious to water. Porcelain tiles are often manufactured in
larger sizes than ceramic.
